Popular Stores, a chain of outdoor outfitters located in Arizona.

Objective

Initially, the store wanted to promote camping season as a way of increasing sales. The theme "Happy Campers" was introduced in the summer of 1989.

Item

7,500 Bumper Stickers printed in three colors comprised the initial order. In the following year-and-a-half four reorders were placed for an additional 40,000 Bumper Stickers.

Distribution

The buyer stated, "Very simply, they were given away in the stores." He was also sure to add an interesting and important note: "When customers were given a Bumper Sticker, the cashiers always requested that the customer put it on his or her vehicle."

Results

"Extremely popular," was the buyer's reply. "The town is flooded with 'Happy Camper' Bumper Stickers." The initial promotion was such an overwhelming success, the store retained the "Happy Campers" theme and now uses it to promote and publicize the store name. The store also purchases t-shirts which employees wear and are available as a retail item.

The distributor enthusiastically shared the following: "The company is an aggressive organization and willing to spend some money to get its name out where it belongs. They know the Bumper Stickers do this, as you can see by the reorders. They know this is what makes the cash register ring!"
