Our 3 Favorite Marketing Campaign FAILS of 2016😂

We just couldn’t resist compiling a list of marketing campaign fails for 2016 that may have you laughing out loud. Enjoy;)

1. Coca-Cola’s expensive geography lesson

What does a long-standing brand powerhouse like Coca-Cola have to do to irritate an entire nation? How about running a beautifully crafted holiday inspired Russia campaign using an outdated 3D map that totally omits Kaliningrad, which was annexed following World War II.

This campaign did, however, generate a ton of engagement. That is if you call a bunch of embittered Russian patriots posting pics pouring the soft drink down their toilets using the hashtag #BanCocaCola, engagement.

Better luck next time.

2. IHOP’s FLAT joke 🙁

Who wouldn’t enjoy a little misogyny with their pancakes? Nobody.

Yet still, the IHOP community manager thought it would be funny to tweet this bad joke about the size of women’s breasts.

Causing such an immediate uproar, you might think the post would have come down just a swiftly as it went up, but nope! It remained on Twitter for hours.

Would not want to be that community manager on that day.

3. What in the world?!!

When it comes to political mud-slinging, typically anything goes – especially over social media, right?

Well yes, but if there is a line between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ mud-slinging, the National Republican Senatorial Committee (@NRSC) definitely crossed it with this tweet.

In March, the GOP sent out a tweet saying Tammy Duckworth doesn’t “stand up” for vets… nothing too odd, right?

Unfortunately, the GOP’s social media team overlooked the fact that Tammy Duckworth happens to be a decorated war vet who served in Iraq, where she lost her legs – both of them!

When she returned home from war, she even came back and worked as the assistant secretary in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

This insanely inappropriate and ill-advised tweet went out on, none other than, National Women’s Day.

In response to their terrible tweet, the NRSC had this to say:

“It would be great if reporters would pay as much attention to a deleted tweet as they should to Tammy Duckworth being sued by VA whistleblowers for ignoring claims of mistreatment and corruption,”  as noted by spokeswoman Andrea Bozek, according to The Washington Post report.

Got to love apologies that come from the heart.

Marketing campaign goals: Don’t ever end up on this list!
